Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas has a unique history: While Yellowstone is known as the first national park, Hot Springs was actually federally protected before Yellowstone. In 1832, it was designated as a federal reserve, long before the National Park Service existed. It didn’t become a National Park until 1921.
